A Stirling Whisky Distillery Tour: What to Expect
If you're visiting Stirling and you like whisky, there's something here you won't find anywhere else: a working distillery in the heart of the old town, making whisky in Stirling for the first time in over 170 years. Here's what a tour with us is actually like, and how to book.
Scotland's smallest whisky distillery
Stirling Distillery sits in the Old Smiddy at the foot of Stirling Castle. We're proud to be one of Scotland's smallest whisky distilleries, and among the first to bring whisky-making back to Stirling after more than a century and a half. That story, of reviving something the town had lost, runs through everything we pour. You can read the full Stirling Distillery story if you want the background before you visit.
What a whisky tour includes
Our Whisky Experience is a relaxed, guided hour or so in the distillery. No velvet ropes, no rushing. You'll get:
- A warm welcome and a dram to start
- The story of whisky in Stirling, past and present
- A look at how we make our spirit, step by step (see our process)
- A guided tasting across Scotland's whisky regions with our Sons of Scotland range
It's hands-on, it's friendly, and you'll leave knowing a great deal more about whisky than when you arrived, whether you're a seasoned dram drinker or just curious.
Why a small distillery is worth your time
Big distilleries are impressive, but they can feel like a production line. Here, you're never far from the person who actually makes the spirit. Ask anything. Linger over the tasting. It's the difference between watching whisky being made and feeling part of its story, especially when that story is the revival of whisky in a town that lost it for 170 years.
The Sons of Scotland range
While our own single malt matures, we bottle exceptional whiskies from across Scotland under our Sons of Scotland label: Highlands, Speyside, Lowlands and beyond, each release limited and numbered. The tasting on the tour is the best way to find your favourite before you take a bottle home.
Prefer gin? We've got you
Not everyone's a whisky drinker, and that's fine. We also run a Gin Experience and a hands-on Gin School where you distill your own bottle to take home. Mixed group? Tell us and we'll sort it.
Where to find us
We're at the Old Smiddy, 9 Lower Castlehill, a short walk up from Stirling's old town and right below the castle. It's an easy add-on to a day seeing the castle or the Wallace Monument.
How to book
Spaces are limited, because it's a small distillery, so it's worth booking ahead. Browse all our distillery experiences and grab your spot, or pick up a tour and tasting gift voucher for the whisky lover in your life.
