Every bottle worth drinking has a story in it. Our Scottish spiced rum carries one of the darkest and most seductive tales the Highlands ever told. Pour a measure, let the orange and spice rise, and you are already halfway into the legend of the Baobhan Sith. This is not spice for the sake of spice. It is folklore you can taste.
Here is where that story comes from, and why it ended up in a bottle.
The legend behind our Scottish spiced rum
The Baobhan Sith is one of Scotland's eeriest pieces of Highland folklore. She appears after dark, a beautiful woman in a long green dress, drawn to hunters and travellers who have wandered too far from the fire. She dances with them. She charms them. And by dawn, the men who followed her are never quite seen again.
She is beauty and danger in the same breath, all allure on the surface and something wild underneath. That is exactly the character we chased when we built this rum. We wanted a spirit that pulls you in with warmth and charm, then reminds you it has a fiery streak of its own. Sweet enough to seduce, spiced enough to keep you honest.
What it actually tastes like
Open the bottle and the first thing you meet is orange peel, bright and fresh. Behind it sits rich spiced fruit cake, the kind of deep, festive sweetness that feels like the middle of winter in a glass. Then comes the twist in the tale. A warm chilli finish rolls in on a burst of orange zest, a fiery echo of the Baobhan Sith herself.
It is warming without being harsh, sweet without being cloying, and it lingers just long enough to make you reach for a second sip. That balance is the whole point. A folklore villain who was only frightening would be forgettable. It is the charm that makes her dangerous, and it is the charm that makes this rum so easy to pour again.
How to drink it
The classic serve is the simplest. Build it over plenty of ice with ginger beer or ginger ale, add a wedge of orange, and you have a Dark and Stormy with a Highland accent. The ginger lifts the natural spice in the rum and the whole thing turns into an easy, warming long drink for a cold Scottish night.
Want something brighter? Mix it with pineapple juice for a tropical twist that plays off the orange beautifully. Prefer something softer and more autumnal? Reach for apple juice instead, which rounds off the chilli and leans into the fruit cake warmth. If you would rather someone else did the thinking, our cocktail finder will match the rum to a serve in seconds.
Why folklore runs through everything we make
The Baobhan Sith is not a one off for us. Scottish legend runs right through the Stirling range, because the stories of this country are far too good to leave on a dusty shelf. The Green Lady haunts Stirling Castle in our gin liqueur. The Red Cap goblin lends his menace to another. Our spiced rum simply gives the Baobhan Sith her turn in the spotlight.
There is a reason for that beyond decoration. We are a small distillery in the heart of Stirling, surrounded by more history and myth than almost anywhere in Scotland. Leaning into those stories is how we make spirits that could only ever have come from here. You can read the fuller version of where we come from and why we do this on our story page, but the short version is this. We think a great drink should give you something to talk about, not just something to sip.
A rum for the darker nights ahead
As the evenings draw in, this is the bottle that earns its place at the back of the drinks trolley and refuses to stay there. It suits a fireside, a ghost story, a get together where someone inevitably asks what on earth a Baobhan Sith is. It is also a properly good gift for the person who thinks they have tried every rum going, because they almost certainly have not tried one built around a Highland vampire.
The Scottish spiced rum comes in a full 70cl bottle, and there is a 5cl measure too if you want to meet the legend before you commit to her.
