Stirling Distillery Opens Its Casks Early with New “Becoming Experience” Tasting Series

Monthly intimate tastings offer rare access to Stirling’s maturing single malt spirit

Stirling Distillery, Scotland’s smallest whisky distillery has announced the launch of a new monthly tasting series offering a rare opportunity to sample its single malt spirit in development, ahead of its first whisky release in June 2027.

The series, titled The Becoming Experience, will invite a limited number of guests each month to taste the distillery’s maturing spirit at different stages of its journey toward becoming whisky. Beginning in June 2026, each edition will be restricted to just ten guests, providing a highly intimate setting in which to explore the evolution of flavour, texture and cask influence over time.

While most distilleries wait until a whisky is fully matured before inviting public scrutiny, Stirling Distillery is taking a different approach - opening its casks early to demonstrate confidence in the quality of its spirit and to document its development transparently.

Each tasting will be hosted by co-founder Cameron McCann, with Hugo McCann - award-winning distiller and winner of Best Scottish New Make Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards 2025 - present throughout to answer questions and guide guests through the nuances of the spirit’s development.

The evening will include a guided tasting, a curated grazing board designed to complement the spirit, and a numbered take-home sample from that stage of maturation. Guests will also get to sample the latest Sons of Scotland single malt selections, as well as being recorded in a Founders’ Ledger, marking their place in the story of Stirling’s first modern single malt. Places are priced at £100 per person.

Whisky production returned to Stirling in 2024 for the first time since 1852. With its inaugural release still a year away, the distillery sees the series as an opportunity to build a deeper connection with both industry and enthusiasts ahead of what promises to be one of Scotland’s most anticipated small-batch releases.

“We’re inviting people to experience the whisky as it evolves. This is about transparency, confidence, and allowing the spirit to be understood before it reaches the bottle. We are incredibly excited about the quality of our new-make so far and we are keen to share that with fellow whisky lovers.”
