Stirling Distillery Celebrates Best Scottish New Make Spirit at the World Whiskies Awards
Stirling’s Unaged Whisky Wins Global Recognition
Stirling, Scotland — 27th March 2025 — Stirling Distillery proudly joined the world’s finest whisky producers at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards 2025 on Wednesday evening 26th March, celebrating excellence in whisky-making. Named Best Scottish New Make Spirit, Stirling Distillery’s unaged whisky stood among the best in the world, a remarkable achievement for one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries.
The distillery’s New Make Spirit, crafted under the guidance of 19-year-old distiller Hugo McCann, has been widely praised for its quality, showcasing the expertise and passion that define Stirling Distillery. Hugo’s decision to dedicate himself to whisky-making rather than pursue university has proven to be an inspired choice, with his craftsmanship now recognised on a national level.
Stirling Distillery was founded by Hugo’s parents, June and Cameron McCann, who have built the distillery with a deep respect for Scotland’s whisky heritage. Their daughter, Elle McCann, now serves as Distillery Manager, ensuring the values of quality, tradition, and innovation remain at the core of every spirit they produce.
Reflecting on the honour, Cameron McCann, Co-Founder of Stirling Distillery, said:
“We are immensely proud to have been recognised as Scotland’s Best New Make Spirit. To stand alongside the best whiskies in the world is a fantastic achievement for our small, independent distillery. This award is a testament to the dedication and skill of our team, particularly Hugo, whose talent continues to shine. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey for Stirling Distillery as we establish ourselves in the whisky world.”
Distilled in the shadow of Stirling Castle, using pure water sourced from the heart of Stirling, the distillery’s whisky embodies the spirit of its historic surroundings. This strong sense of place, combined with expert craftsmanship, has led to a product that has received high praise from industry experts and whisky enthusiasts alike.
To mark this achievement, Stirling Distillery will release a limited number of casks, to be filled in early 2026 with the award-winning New Make Spirit, offering whisky lovers the opportunity to invest in the distillery’s promising future. Cask Club members will receive first access to these exclusive releases.
As the distillery looks ahead, it remains committed to crafting exceptional spirits and sharing its journey with whisky lovers around the world.
