Stirling Spiced Rum: A Scottish Spiced Rum Steeped in Folklore

Not everything we make is gin. Stirling Spiced Rum is our warming, fiery tribute to one of Scotland's darker legends, and it might just be the most characterful bottle on our shelf.

Here's the story behind it, how it tastes, and the best ways to pour it.

The legend of the Baobhan Sith

Stirling Spiced Rum is inspired by the Baobhan Sith, a vampiress of Scottish folklore known for her allure and her untamed spirit. The rum is built to capture both: seductive on the first sip, with a fiery echo on the finish, just like her fateful encounters. If you enjoy a spirit with a story, this one runs deep. You can meet more of the characters behind our bottles in our guide to the Scottish folklore behind our spirits.

How it tastes

This is a spiced rum with real depth and a proper kick.

  • Nose and palate: orange peel and rich, spiced fruit cake
  • Finish: a warm chilli heat and bright orange zest, that fiery echo we mentioned

It's warming rather than sweet, and it lingers, which makes it a lovely dram for colder nights.

How to serve Stirling Spiced Rum

The easiest way to enjoy it is over ice with ginger beer or ginger ale, which lifts the rum's natural spice and warmth. For a fruit-led serve, mix it with pineapple juice for a vibrant twist, or reach for apple juice for something softer and cosier when the weather turns. Garnish with an orange wedge and you're set.

Part of the folklore range

The Baobhan Sith is in good company. Our spiced rum sits alongside two folklore-inspired gin liqueurs: the raspberry Red Cap, named for a malevolent border goblin, and the minty Green Lady, after the ghost said to haunt Stirling Castle. Each one turns a piece of Scottish legend into something you can actually pour.

Where to find it

You can order Stirling Spiced Rum from our Scottish rum collection, and you'll also find it in selected Co-op stores across Scotland. However you get hold of it, it's best enjoyed slowly, and ideally by candlelight.
