Stirling Distillery Launch Limited Edition Whisky
Stirling Distillery, situated in the shadow of Stirling Castle, have launched a limited edition run of their Cambusbarron and Stoneywood whisky ranges from their Sons of Scotland collection.
The limited edition Cambusbarron whisky has been re-casked from a 2020 new-make lowland whisky and housed in the Distillery’s bonded warehouse since 2021. It was decanted and split into three different quarter casks in January of 2023. There are only 50 bottles available from this latest lowland cask and stock is extremely limited.
The first of the three cask releases is from a quarter sherry cask. In the short time it has been in the cask, the whisky has taken on an enticing rich dark colour, but more importantly smooth rich sherry flavour notes – boasting characteristics of a much older sherry cask whisky. Early tastings have been incredibly positive, with the whisky tasting notably more mature than its three years.
This is the third Cambusbarron bottling. Each cask has been different and uniquely flavoured.
The latest Stoneywood release comes from a nine year old Orkney Bordeaux Barrique (white wine) cask with 250 bottles. On the nose is caramel and melted milk chocolate with a long, warming finish. This follows on from the previous Stoneywood release in 2022 which came from a red wine cask. The most recent release of their Arngibbon whisky from Speyside was bottled in June 2023 and released online and in store but sold out in four weeks.
Since the distillery launched their Sons of Scotland independent bottling range in 2020, this is the first time the distillery have had the opportunity to re-cask liquid and demand has been high. The new ranges are a step change in the whisky offered by the distillery. They highlight the move from the distillery away from purely gin production into the world of whisky. With their new-make whisky production beginning, the distillery are bringing whisky back to the city for the first time since the original Stirling Distillery closed its doors in 1852.
As a passionate advocate for Scottish whisky, distillery co-founder Cameron McCann has the pleasure of selecting casks from across Scotland for their Sons of Scotland range. Now entering his third decade in the industry, Cameron spoke of his love of whisky: “Whenever you have a whisky in your hand, you’re holding a story in a glass. With our Sons of Scotland range, this is no exception. We carefully selected casks full of history and flavour.”
The distillery has been overwhelmed with interest in their private cask sales which have now reached capacity for 2023. They are now taking pre-order requests for 2024. Anyone interested should visit the distillery website: https://stirlingdistillery.com/pages/cask-sales to find out more.
Stirling Distillery is well known for celebrating the rich history and folklore of the famous Scottish city through their product range and their King James whisky and Cask Club is no different. Find out more and shop online at https://stirlingdistillery.com/shop/
